Presentation

Title:  Process Safety in Energy Transition LNG/LBG Storage Facility

Author:  Jonny Danielsson

Presenter: Jonny Danielsson

Date & Time:  Thursday, 28 September 2023 at 15:00-15:30 CEST

Detail: Biogas, a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source, has emerged as a pivotal player in the journey towards a greener future. The safety aspect of liquid biogas (LBG) production and storage facilities is paramount to protect people, assets, and the environment and avoid operational disruption due to accidents. To this end, robust process hazard analysis methods (PHA) are essential to evaluate and mitigate potential risks. Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), using 3D and 2D methodologies, is also pivotal in analysing the hazards associated with facilities handling biogas. Additionally, hazardous area classification in accordance with the ATEX EN 60079-10-1 is indispensable to maintaining safety standards. To illustrate the real-world implications of these concepts, case examples that highlight the critical importance of these safety studies in achieving safe and sustainable LBG are presented.
