Gexcon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR-NEERI (The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute) of India, in an effort to promote cooperative research and to facilitate the exchange of ideas in the area of process risk assessment, mainly including gas and dust fire and explosion modelling using CFD based tool FLACS.

Gexcon was represented by Sturle H. Pedersen (CEO), and CSIR-NEERI was represented by Dr Suresh Kumar (Chief Scientist and Head, Environmental Impact & Sustainability Division).

Sturle mentioned that recently there has been a change in the requirements for Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) in India for production and processing facilities, which required 3D modelling.

One of the purposes of this MoU is therefore to facilitate the readiness of the scientists through training to use the FLACS CFD software tool, as well as to improve both party capabilities in the field of risk assessment through joint research in laboratories and test sites. CSIR-NEERI will also purchase a FLACS license to be able to use the software to its full potential. ” We look forward to working with CSIR-NEERI to develop tools for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and support in higher education, training, and sponsored research of all concerned involved in process transformation to better identify, manage and deliver innovative ideas in managing Process Safety & Risk Management while handling hazardous chemicals,” as explained by Sturle.
