Gexcon and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember signed an MoU

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is ready to take on a role in the development of today’s modern industry known as the Industrial Revolution 4.0. One of the evidence is by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Gexcon Indonesia, a subsidiary of Gexcon AS located in Jakarta engages in consulting and process safety software in the industry.

Took place at the office of the ITS Chancellor, this MoU was signed by the Chancellor of ITS, Dr Joni Hermana and the Executive Vice President of Gexcon AS, Dr Jan Roar Bakke. Also present at the signing was the General Manager of PT Gexcon Indonesia, Teguh Cahyono and the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department of ITS, Juwari.

According to Dr Hermana, this MoU shows that ITS is one of the institutes of technology in Indonesia that is ready to implement advanced currently-developed technology. “Especially the technology in the field of industrial engineering,” said the professor of Environmental Engineering.

Meanwhile, Teguh explained that using Gexcon’s software, studies in the field of industrial safety and risk management and dispersion, explosion, and advanced fire modelling can be done. “This software has a very important role for the industrial company,” said Teguh.

When an explosion occurs in a facility, it will cause damages and losses if there is no prior anticipation. Therefore, Teguh stated that the importance of this software as a whole can be to improve safety performance in the workplace.

Teguh gives an example of an oil and gas company that processes chemicals that are very dangerous and toxic. Regarding this, it is necessary to ensure that oil and gas production equipment meets the applicable safety standards. “In addition to benefiting investors because of guaranteed production safety, it will be less dangerous to the surrounding environment. Moreover, the safety of employees who work in the facility will be more secure,” he said.

Furthermore, Juwari stated that chemical engineering which also engaged in the design and operation of the chemical industry was indeed greatly assisted by the existence of this software. “Actually, not only in the chemical sector, in other sectors such as warehousing, this kind of anticipation is also required,” said Juwari.
