About the webinar

Shell FRED 2023 replaces the previous version of the software (Shell FRED 2022).

In this webinar, you will be presented with a live software demonstration to show the new key enhancements in Shell FRED 2023, including:

  • Improved export/ import feature of the scenario input for creating new scenarios or making bulk changes when performing multiple consequence cases.
  • Integration of geographic information to locate scenarios and their corresponding results directly with satellite imagery of the actual location.


Shell FRED has been developed and validated through Shell’s extensive program of large-scale experiments, a substantial investment, joint industry projects, and published scientific literature.

Graham Morrison

Graham Morrison

UK Consulting Director & Shell Software Product Manager @ Gexcon UK

Graham is the Product Manager for the Shell software products: FRED (Fire, Release, Explosion, and Dispersion), Shepherd (Quantitative Risk Assessment), and PIPA (Pre-Incident Planning).

Graham has over 10 years of experience as a consultant using tools such as Shell FRED and Shell Shepherd to conduct modelling and develop risk assessments for clients around the world, including four years in the offshore oil and gas sector in Aberdeen. He brings his experience of using the products to the role of Product Manager, acting as an interface between the users and developers.



Steven Betteridge

Dr. Steven Betteridge

Subject Matter Expert Major Hazards @ Shell

Steven has a PhD in physics from Liverpool University. He has worked for the last 20 years in the Major Hazards group within Shell. During that time he has been involved in all aspects of the design and development of the FRED and Shepherd applications.

Steven has also managed the execution of several large-scale experiments, for LNG and recently LH2, and analyzed the results to develop new models within FRED. He is a subject matter expert on fires, dispersion, and electrostatics within Shell.
