Role Purpose

Gexcon France is looking for an experienced team player who will take charge of the delivery of high-hazard safety and risk management studies to support our consulting business in France as well as the global consulting business, where required.

To be successful in this role, you must have the following attributes:

Transferable skills:

  • Experience of managing and delivering international projects across varying disciplines and countries is essential, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Enthusiasm for areas of expertise and providing motivation, guidance, and support to colleagues and the wider technical community in an international context
  • Experienced in market research, segmentation, and building a sales pipeline with a track record of identifying and closing competitive deals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, a self-starter
  • Able to work to critical deadlines and re-evaluate priorities while exercising discretion, diplomacy, and good judgment
  • High-quality written and verbal communication skills in English (both for general communication and technical reports)
  • Fluency in French, written and verbal, is compulsory
  • Fluent or very good practice in English, written and verbal are essential for the communication with customer or at Group level

Technical requirements:

  • Master’s (MEng/MSc, or BSc with significant experience), in a STEM subject (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or other natural sciences).
  • Master’s degree in Process Safety and Loss Prevention, Risk Management, Fire & Explosion Protection Engineering or similar would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical background in combustion and/or fire dynamics
  • Experience of
    • performing quantitative hazard risk analysis and assessments (FERA, QRA, probabilistic analysis, modelizations of dangerous phenomenon as fire, explosion, dispersion of pollution), demonstration ALARP (cost / benefit analysis), environmental impacts
    • performing hazardous area classifications
    • piloting and performing quantitative and qualitative risk analysis and assessments (HAZID and HAZOP, FMEA, RAM, SIL, LOPA, AMDEC, scenario-based approach studies and propose technical or organizational solution to minimize the risks
    • ATEX / DSEAR / COMAH / SEVESO compliance knowledge
    • working with both empirical and CFD-based dispersion, explosion, and fire to produce consequence studies, consequence modelling and risk assessment (2D or 3D modelling tools)
    • hazard consequence analysis, such as deflagration and explosion dynamics, explosion overpressure effects, unconfined vapor cloud explosions, BLEVEs, and flame radiation (example : leakage issue)
    • working with requirements for siting studies or fire & blast studies such as API 752/753/756, US 49 CFR 193 Subpart B, NFPA 59A (2001+), ISO 17776:2002, ISA-TR84.00.07, CAP437/HSAC RP 161/162, API RP 521
    • typical processes and hazards encountered in refineries, offshore installations, and LNG facilities including various treatment and liquefaction processes, and actual operational concerns
  • Dedicated to continuous learning and updating his/her learning and knowledge
  • Any additional relevant experience with regards to advanced consequence modelling, structural response and fire modelling, environmental assessments for high-hazard sites will be advantageous.

In addition, experiences in the following sectors could be beneficial: construction, automotive & transport, aeronautic, agriculture, food & beverages, beauty, pharmaceutical, energy transition and management (oil& gas, nuclear, renewable energies as hydrogen, battery, solar, etc.)

The Role

You will be responsible for

  • delivering best-in-class project work and deliverables for Gexcon’s clients
    • Defining project scope with clients
    • Managing your own workflow and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
    • Managing projects; managing client expectations, scope creep and project profitability
    • Performing following activities: quantitative and qualitative risk analysis and assessments, hazardous area classifications, hazard analysis techniques such as HAZID and HAZOP
  • helping develop and grow Gexcon France ‘Risk Assessment` business – combining Gexcon’s existing advanced explosion modelling capability (using FLACS and other tools) with structural response techniques to expand our service offering by;
    • Identifying target customers
    • Assisting the Business Development team in approaching and developing new clients
    • Presenting at and attending relevant conferences
    • Developing and publishing relevant material (with the support of the marketing team)
    • Keeping up to date with regulations, identifying the risks for Gexcon activity regarding the evolution of regulations and making proposals
    • Developing and publishing methodologies to support Gexcon’s reputation as knowledge leaders
    • Publishing white papers/journal articles/blog post etc

The role requires interaction and feedback with the Product Development teams, collaboration with the wider Gexcon team and training and development of the team members in Gexcon France.
